Undergraduate Essay Competition

Sibéal runs an annual essay competition for final year undergraduates. There is no set theme for this competition; rather, candidates are encouraged to submit work in the area of gender and/or feminist studies. Submissions can be within any discipline in the field.


There will be a prize of 50 euros/ 50 pounds book token for the winning essay, along with free registration at the annual Sibéal conference to be held in November 2018, at Ulster University. The winning candidate will be given the opportunity to present the essay at the conference. 

Rules and Regulations:

  1. The competition is open to all final year undergraduate students in Ireland, Northern Ireland and further afield.

  2. Essays should be 2,500 words maximum.

  3. Please do not include any identifiable information on your essay submission. 

  4. Electronic submissions should be submitted to sibealnetwork@gmail.com by 31 July 2018.


The winner of the Sibéal Undergraduate Essay Prize will be announced in September 2018.
